They are much better now than even just a few years ago. Carbon Onyx wins my vote. I got a Fibracell Premier and a Legere Studio Cut 2.5.

Before I thought it was stuffy and hard to blow, but this time it was easier. For about 6 months I've been using a Bari hard that I filed to soften.

I just got a legere reed but wanted a fibracell reed.
Altissimo is easy as well and good tuning up there too. Using a 2 3/4 Gonzales at the moment as I had a box to hand and I find their strength rating is pretty much the same as Signatures.
Incidentally, there a huge jump in strength from Legere 2.5 to 3, and that must be why they offer 2.75, the strength I now use. It’s probably a reed strength issue. I am comparing it with the Carbon in that the ones I have are both a “Medium” but the carbon feels a little stiff whereas the Onyx feels perfect right away. If it’s too resistant get a softer reed.
1 decade ago . The very first one called the “Natural” plays too dark for my taste.The next one produced was the “Carbon”. Fairyly sorted now, very pleased and find I am not playing with a weaker reed than previous, but I have been working at that. Either way, it plays really well, with both a core and an edge to the tone that's absolutely comparable to cane. I would look at the Legere reed chart and go for .25 or .5 strength lower than what it suggests on both alto and tenor saxophone mouthpieces.I would purchase 3 different strengths a quarter size apart and then once you’ve determined the correct strength for you, send the other 2 in to be replaced with your preferred strength.
